AUSTIN, Texas – Four standouts headline a group of accomplished student-athletes named to the 2024 Academic All-America® baseball teams as selected by College Sports Communicators.

Jac Caglianone from the University of Florida, Alex Epp from William Jewell College, Matt Scolan of UW-Whitewater, and Tyler Horner from Oregon Tech are the All-America® of the Year honorees for NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, and the NAIA, respectively.


NCAA Division I

2024 Academic All-America® Baseball teams announced for all NCAA and NAIA divisions (1)

Jac Caglianone, from Tampa, Florida, manned first base and pitched for Florida this season. The junior earns his selection as an infielder this year. He is a history major with a 3.64 cumulative grade-point average.

Recently named a 2024 Division I First Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Caglianone is Florida’s all-time home run leader with 75 career round-trippers. He hit a school single-season record 35 home runs in 66 games this season as he helped lead the Gators to the NCAA Division I Men’s College World Series Semifinals for the second-consecutive season. He posted a .419 batting average this season with 83 runs scored, 72 RBI and a 1.419 OPS. Caglianone won Division I two-way player of the year awards from the College Baseball Foundation and Perfect Game this season.

Five members of this year’s Academic All-America® Division I baseball team are earning a recognition for the second time. Jesse Barker (University of Central Arkansas) is the only player on this year’s first team to also be a first team honoree in 2023. Graduate student Owen Cobb (Stanford University) repeats as a second team selection, earning the honor in both 2023 and 2024. Ryan Campos (Arizona State University), Slade Wilks (Southern Mississippi), and Travis Bazzana (Oregon State University) are on the first team this year after earning third team honors in 2023.

The 33-man team has a 3.78 average cumulative GPA with the first team checking in at 3.73. Three of the six student-athletes with perfect 4.0 cumulative GPAs this year are first team honorees.

NCAA Division II

2024 Academic All-America® Baseball teams announced for all NCAA and NAIA divisions (2)

Alex Epp, a senior civil engineering major from Wichita, Kansas, is named the Division II 2024 Academic All-American® of the Year for the second-consecutive year. This year marks his third-consecutive first team selection, also earning the recognition in 2022 and 2023. He recently graduated from William Jewell with a 3.93 cumulative GPA.

Epp, a shortstop for the Cardinals, was recently named a Division III All-American by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association. Epp led Division II this season with 85 runs scored, while hitting for a .411 (85-for-207) batting average at the plate. He hit 19 home runs this year with 57 RBI and he added 12 stolen bases.

Epp is one of eight repeat selections from the 2023 Academic All-America® Division II baseball team and is the only three-time selection on any of this year’s Academic All-America® baseball teams. He is joined by these returning selections from 2023: Carson Ogilvie (Lubbock Christian University), and Karter Fitzpatrick (Wayne State University), Scott Anderson (Point Loma Nazarene University), Brevin McCool (Lubbock Christian), Jake Williams (Metropolitan State University of Denver), Isaac Nett (Southwest Minnesota State University), G. Allen (Ouachita Baptist University), and Cal James (St. Cloud State University). James was a third team selection representing University of Mary in 2023. Brennen van Breusegen (University of Central Missouri) and Luke Folsom (Colorado School of Mines) were returning selections from 2022.

The Division II team boasts a 3.83 average GPA with a 3.84 average for the first team. Five of the 34 Division II selections have a cumulative 4.0 grade point average.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.

NCAA Division III

2024 Academic All-America® Baseball teams announced for all NCAA and NAIA divisions (3)

Matt Scolan hails from Downers Grove, Illinois. A finance major at UW-Whitewater, he has a 3.83 cumulative GPA.

An outfielder for the Warhawks, Scolan earned first team All-America awards from both the ABCA and D3baseball.com this season. He hit .404 (92-for-228) this season with 18 home runs and a school single-season record 78 RBI as he helped lead the Warhawks to the NCAA Division III Championship Series. Scolan scored a school record 81 runs this year with 18 stolen bases.

The 2024 Division III team has 12 honorees that are repeat honorees from last year. The members of this year’s team that were also on the 2023 squad are: Jack Anderson, Nick Harms, and Tyler Horvath of Case Western University, Matthew Carlsen (Bethel University), Nolan Sparks (University of Rochester), Hunter Strong (Spalding University), Julian Sanders (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Harrison Poeszat (Kalamazoo College), Teddy Schoenfeld (MIT), Kyle McCausland and Mitchell Schrieder of Middlebury College, and Jacob Bell (Shenandoah University)

The Division III team boasts an overall average GPA of 3.85 with a 3.83 average for the first team. Six student-athletes boast 4.0 cumulative GPAs.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division III Academic All-America® program.

NAIA

2024 Academic All-America® Baseball teams announced for all NCAA and NAIA divisions (4)

Tyler Horner, from Twin Falls, Idaho, is a junior mechanical engineering major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA. He is the catcher for the Oregon Tech Owls.

Horner was recently named an ABCA NAIA First Team All-American, the first Oregon Tech player to earn the distinction in 42 years. The 2024 Cascade Conference Player of the Year, he posted a .394 (82-for-209) batting average with 16 home runs, and 59 RBI. He established Oregon Tech’s single-season records for doubles (21) and home runs in an outstanding junior campaign.

Horner is a first team honoree on the NAIA Academic All-America® baseball team for the second-consecutive year. Daniel Fick (Columbia College), and Nick George (William Penn University) join Horner as repeat selections this year.

The 23-man NAIA team has a 3.82 average GPA with the first team checking in at 3.88.

The NAIA Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 NAIA Academic All-America® program.
