To find an equivalent fraction, you can multiply or divide the numerator and denominator by the same number. For example, if you have the fraction 1/2, you can multiply the numerator and denominator by 2 to get 2/4. This is an equivalent fraction to 1/2.
When two fractions represent the same amount of a whole they are equivalent fractions. We can convert a fraction into an equivalent fraction by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number, or dividing out a common factor from the numerator and denominator.
The only way your students are going to master equivalent fractions is through using fraction models. Use all the manipulatives, fraction bars and fraction circles. Use them all day every day! Come up with an easy procedure for getting your fraction models passed out to your students.
Equivalent fractions are the fractions that have different numerators and denominators but are equal to the same value. For example, 2/4 and 3/6 are equivalent fractions, because they both are equal to the ½. A fraction is a part of a whole.
Equivalent fractions are two or more fractions that are all equal even though they different numerators and denominators. For example the fraction 1/2 is equivalent to (or the same as) 25/50 or 500/1000. Each time the fraction in its simplest form is 'one half'.
There are many fractions that are equal to 1/4. Some of these fractions are 2/8, 4/16, 8/32, and 10/40. These fractions all have the same value, but they have different numerators and denominators. The numerator is the top number in a fraction, and the denominator is the bottom number.
To find equivalent fractions, we multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number, so we need to multiply the denominator of 7 by a number that will give us 21. Since 3 multiplied by 7 gives us 21, we can find an equivalent fraction by multiplying both the numerator and denominator by 3.
Step 1: Multiply the whole number by the denominator of the fraction. Step 2: Add the product from step 1 to the numerator of the fractional part of the mixed number. Step 3: Put the result from step 2 over the original denominator. This is the mixed number written as an equivalent improper fraction.
